A community service commitment to protect public health and safety and to preserve the natural environment through the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater in the most cost-effective way possible.

What is the Montecito Sanitary District?

The Montecito Sanitary District is an independent special district voted into existence in 1947 by the residents of Montecito to provide for the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater.

How is the Montecito Sanitary District Organized?

The District is governed by a five-member Board of Directors, elected at large by District residents. Each member serves a four-year-term. A General Manager, appointed by the Board, administers the operation of the District with a trained staff of thirteen employees.

The Montecito Sanitary District Board meets bi-monthly, the second and last Monday of each month at 1:00 pm in the District's Board Room.

Tours

Tours of the Montecito Sanitary District Wastewater Treatment Plant and Laboratory are available for individuals and groups. School groups may find a tour of the facilities very informative and compatible with science course materials.
